Its Roux time baby!

Roux in the Soup

 Its all about the roux in the soup! My team made the best roux which was awesome! I love when I win because I am a very competitive person. But roux is something that you put in the soup of your choice. It makes the soup more thinking then it would if it just was the broth. Roux is a very special easy to make all you need is flour and butter. All you need to do is boil it all it gets a medium brown. Simple and Easy!

AHA moment of the week!

AHA!
I get to make soup whenever I want! It will be fun to make it when I am sick because then all I want when I am sick is a bowl of hot chicken noodle soup. I don't know why but its the best when you are sick! It makes me feel better and now I can make homemade chicken noodle soup because chef fought me how uncomplicated it was to make soup. All you need is a broth and everything can come together. I can't wait till next week! Learning more everyday in this class but I am not just learning I am doing!

Making Soup or Nawh?

Homemade Soup when your Sick?




Today we made some soup broth before we started our soup event. Making broth is a simple thing to do which I never knew. I could make soup as long as i have vegetables and meat! Its a great thing because when I am sick and need soup I can just go into my kitchen and make soup! You guys can do the same! Just look at the video and pictures, trust me you will have a great soup broth and great soup. Have fun cooking!

The DAIRY moment

It is Dairy Day! Get ready to drink and eat from the cow! 

This day was pretty cool because we got to try all different types of cheese, yogurt, and milk and see what the different taste, textures and smells. like the difference between Greek yogurt and regular yogurt is the bitterness to it. Also I learned I can tell what something is if i dislike it then if I like the food. It pretty interesting because its all made from one animal but all taste very different.

AHA MOMENT OF WEEK 3!

WATCHING MY FOOD GET KILLED, probably one of the saddest things I have ever seen. It makes me take what I eat and appreciate it more. Something had to die in order for me to consume it in my mouth and taste the greatness of it. Learning and seeing that makes everything even taste better. Its gradening time 9/17/15



Learning about what is growing in my back yard makes eating it better everyday. Not knowing most the items in these pictures show my complete blindness to what I eat. Plus it gives me taste buds a new thing to try. Eating new things makes my variety of food better everyday. I have a little game! Who ever can name everything without looking them up ill make dinner. IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA.....9/15/15


 
It’s Seafood Day! I didn’t get to try the seafood this time because I had to leave class a bit early for something important to me! But seeing how to cook, when to cook it and how to kill it was pretty awesome! I like sea food so learning where it comes from makes me love it even more. I love animals and I love they taste. I like learning how to truly eat a food without feeling guilt. Knowing it dies in a peaceful way makes me feel better to eat and enjoy it! Plus it’s fun to cook!

WEEK 2 AHA MOMENT

AHA!

The moment I will always remember is cooking a piece of meat and being able to hear good things about it. The only thing I have cooked myself and it be good is cereal. So being able to say I made something someone eat and liked was amazing. Even more so because someone came to try a RIB CAP in our class and tried the one I made and loved it. I love that I could make someone's first time a great experience. Chief was RIGHT! Food is a very intimate art which stays with you forever and I got to enjoy that intimate time with someone.

All about Meat 9/10/15

 

 In this class we talked about meats, we sniffed meats, and we didn't eat we tasted the meat. We took apart a cow and learned how make something we bought around 400 dollars and make 1200 dollars out of a cow. We learned what and how to cut a Ribeye steak, Ribeye rib cap, and a filet. I also got to cook this day. We had Sauté VS Grilling.

Tools or Instruments? 9/8/15


Tools or Instruments........Chief went over every tools and or instrument you can possibly use in the kitchen and how to properly use that item. Such as a chiefs knife, you hold it with two fingers on ether sides and with your knuckles pressed against the side of the knife. That is a way to properly cut and hold a knife.

Week 1 AHA Moment

AHA!

This weeks moment was when Chief introduced what we were going to do during this class. This is going to be my best and favorite class this semester. I am so excited and happy to be able to do this class. After this semester I want to be able to cook anything and everything. I am stoked to start on this class! This is one class that what I will be taught, I will be using sometime in my career. I will always be ready and excited for this class! I cant wait to get started. Even though this week was a bit boring just talking about what we are going to do just makes me happy for what I will learn.

Cleaning day 9/3/15



























 Todays lesson thought us that a happy work place is a clean work place. Learning how to clean this larger area efficiently and affectively with the help of your teammates, coworkers, or your classmates make sure that they are working and serving in a healthy environment. Chief Mark in the video showed and maybe even scared us so we know how to really clean. So today know we know how to sweep, mop, wipe down, take out the trash and do the dish in a proper manner.

First Day! 9/1/15


My first class in cooking and I get to actually cook! We cooked this egg which we got an 90% job well done from our chief. This is going to make this semester all the better! Also this is my group that I will be working with for a full semester with and I am so excited for what we will make! We are going to make our own soups, meats, pasta and desserts. We will have a blast doing each project and making sure each project is one of the great ones. I cant wait to get to work!

Hello! I am Alejandra but you can call me Lexi, the guy in the picture is Chief Mark. He is a pretty great guy and great chief that will teach me the in's and out's of a kitchen. I am in the Hotel and Restaurant Management program at Northern Arizona University and this class is a requirement in order for me to graduate. This class excites me everyday because everyday I learn something new to take with me to the work force. I maybe more interested in hotels than I am restaurants, so you would think this class probably has nothing to do with my end result in the end to my career.  But it does have to do with a lot in my career. I may not be in charge of a kitchen but you never know. Even though I rather do hotels I might have to work up or I might have to take what is given to me. Having that I learned how to use professionalism in a kitchen it might save me from having a no job to having a great paying one. Or say I  am a general manger of a hotel or even an event planner most hotels have restaurants and in a hotel everyone helps out with one another. So having that restaurant experience on my resume shows that I can help in other departments. This blog will be proof of what I can do or what I have learned. So when those big time recruiters come to interview me I can show them what I have done not just tell them. Also it does just show that I can cook, or cant! HA! but it shows I know how to follow orders, even go above and beyond those orders sometimes and that shows that I am a hard worker and will do anything to get where I want to be. Well I hope this blog brings fun, enjoyment and maybe even a little lesson for you!
